INYC Domain Name FAQs

5. How long does it take before my domain name is active?

A When an account is activated with a new domain name, we will automatically send the registration template to Register.com. The information sent on the template is pulled directly from the order form. Register.com typically completes the registration within 24 hours. Once the Register.com announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called propagation.

Keep in mind that web with their own domain names(www.yourcompany.com) are better received, better remembered, and exude more credibility than cheap-looking subdomain arrangements (i.e. www.host.com/yourcompany). sites these sites offer a bargain service, people visiting free pages generally will not view them a legitimate business enterprises. If you can't afford your own domain, they will wonder how you can be running a reliable business. Also, you often have to deal with pop-up consoles and excessive banner ads placed on your pages. Now, having said that, they do provide a place to get started and gain some experience. So, give them a try and have fun. We'll add more links as time permits.
